Richard Yap will again try his luck in next year’s elections by running for congressman in Cebu City’s North Congressional District.

During the 2019 elections, Richard also run for the same position in the said district, though he lost to the late Rep. Raul Del Mar.
"I am just sad that I was not given the chance to make my plans and dreams for Cebu a reality," the actor wrote on his Facebook page at the time as reported by ABS-CBN News.
He ran under the Barug-PDP-Laban party in 2019 but even with a well-oiled political machinery and fame as “Sir Chief,” Richard wasn’t able to capture the seat.

With the death in 2020 of his then rival, Rep. Raul Del Mar, it would now seem that the North Congressional District may now be up for grabs.
It might also be among the factors why Richard decided to again run for congressman in the same district.
Philippine Star reported that on Sunday, his wife, Melody, filed Richard’s Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as representative for the North Congressional District of Cebu City.
Election officer Omar Sharif Dilangalen Mamalinta has confirmed this to CDN Digital.
He did not say, however, what political party is Richard running under or if he will be running as an independent.
Richard Yap is a Filipino-Chinese actor, best known for his roles on the teleseryes “My Binondo Girl” and “Be Careful With My Heart.” He is also the owner of Wangfu, which has several branches across the nation.
Richard Yap, the star of one of the longest-running teleseryes of ABS-CBN, is now moving over to GMA-7. The actor is bound to sign a contract with GMA Artist Center, the talent agency of GMA Network. It was ABS-CBN who gave Richard the biggest break in his showbiz career when he starred in "My Binondo Girl." His popularity rose when he starred as Ser Chief alongside Jodi Sta. Maria in "Be Careful With My Heart."
He impressed many people with the latest episode of his personal vlog on YouTube. The actor-businessman gave an epic tour of his luxurious house that he describes as “humble.” The video shows the Richard showing and sharing details of the different areas of his house. He also gave an exciting glimpse of the five expensive cars in his enormous garage.
