After several weeks of waiting, John Arcilla finally received the famed Volpi Cup, which he was supposed to receive when he won Best Actor during the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

John wasn’t able to go to Venice to personally receive the cup because he said his doctor advised against travelling amid the threat of dangerous variants of COVID.

Contrary to rumors, production officials and the rest of his team at “Ang Probinsyano,” gave a nod to him attending the event.

Since John is already fully vaccinated, it is possible for him to fly abroad.

However, he said his doctor advised him against it as the threat of COVID is not yet over.

John won the Best Actor award for his role in the movie, “On The Job: The Missing 8,” and is the first Southeast Asian to receive such distinction.

He gave a speech, which he then posted online, though unlike previous recipients, he wasn’t able to give the Volpi Cup its customary kiss.

After more that two weeks, he finally was able to lay his hands on the prestigious “Coppa Volpi,” and give it a kiss.

An expensive watch also came along with the cup, which is part of the reward as Best Actor.

“Direk, I got na my Volpi Cup ready for my Metro mag pictorial and it goes pala with Cartier watch for men,” John told Director Lauren Dyogi.

The actor was also ecstatic to know that the watch is made of 18k gold inside and outside.

“This Cartier pala is both 18k gold inside and out – including all the piyesa inside the watch,” John revealed.

According to the Cartier website, the watch that John received has a price tag of US$13,500 or more than P680,000 in Philippine money.

He was born on June 24, 1966 do Dominador Gil Alemania Arcilla and Eustacia Gonzales in Quezon City. John is a descendant, from his mother’s side, of former President Manuel L. Quezon. While he has appeared in dozens of movies, TV series, and Theater plays, he is best known and remembered for playing the role of Antonio Luna in the historical drama film Heneral Luna. He is also known for portraying the role of Hagorn in the fantasy-series Encantadia. John also portrayed the role of Renato Hipolito in the action-drama series, Ang Probinsyano. John expressed his regret in his virtual acceptance speech of not being able to physically attend the ceremony in Italy.

78th Venice Film Festival best actor John Arcilla previously gave his fearless views on the state of political affairs in the Philippines. He said that those occupying political positions in government should serve the people and not act like a king or a boss.
