In an online discussion with Boy Abunda on Sunday, the Ilongga beauty queen said that after her Ms. U stint, a lot of commenters have been goading her into joining the Miss World.
“I've been reading a lot of comments. I remember after I lost, nag-trending agad 'yung ‘Rabiya for the World’ on social media,” she revealed.
Rabiya said that at first, she took such comments lightly, even making jokes about it.
“I was making jokes na, ‘Hindi pa nga okay 'yung paltos ko sa paa, gusto niyo na naman akong sumali,’” the Ilongga beauty queen said.
However, when Boy Abunda asked her on her thoughts about the matter, Rabiya said she might consider it.
“Let's give it two years siguro. Let's see, I'm not closing any door... who knows?” she revealed.
Rabiya Occeña Mateo is a model and beauty pageant titleholder of Filipino and Indian-American ethnicity. She was born on November 14, 1996 to an Indian-American father and a Filipino mother. The name Rabiya meant a “princess” and a “queen” in Muslim. After her parents’ separation, her mother raised Rabiya and her brother, Alamgir “Mokmok” Mateo, on her own. Rabiya revealed she grew up in abject poverty, which she compensated by studying well, earning the academic distinction of ‘Third Honorable Mention’ upon graduation in high school and Latin honors upon her graduation from Iloilo Doctors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. The Ilongga beauty queen is a licensed physical therapist. She was crowned Miss Universe Philippines in 2020 and represented the Philippines at the prestigious Miss Universe 2020 pageant, finishing as one of the Top 21 in the prestigious beauty pageant.
Christine Mateo, the mom of Rabiya, has aired her thoughts previously on the bashers of her daughter. One of the things that she pinpointed was during the national costume segment. She said that they did not know the sacrifices that Rabiya made. The concerned mother reiterated how the beauty queen's legs were wounded and how she needed to carry 21 kilos of costume.
Rabiya’s mom also shared how she felt when her daughter cried after the national costume segment. She said that as a mother, she felt the pain and the hurt that her daughter felt. She then said that bashers will always be there but she would always tell Rabiya to be thankful for all the blessings. The mom also said that she would just tell her daughter to keep pushing.
