Nonito Donaire makes history with world title KO win against Oubaali

- The 38-year-old Donaire made history as he became the oldest boxer to win the bantamweight title

- The Filipino Flash knocked down the French fighter three times before the fight was stopped

Nonito Donaire made history after defeating France’s Nordine Oubaali via technical knockout in the fourth round in their WBC Bantamweight Championship fight yesterday at the Dignity Sports Health Park venue in California.

Through this historic win, the 38-year-old Donaire became the oldest boxer to win the bantamweight title.

Donaire displayed his infamous left hook – known as one of the most lethal punches in boxing today – to crush his opponent. Donaire is now seeking to unify the titles in the bantamweight division through a rematch with Japan’s Naoya Inoue.

In 2019, Naoya Inoue defeated Donaire in their world title fight in Japan. Their fight was later considered as the “Fight of the Year” as the older warrior displayed courage in giving Inoue the toughest fight of his life.

Donaire also made news months ago when had to drop out of a fight after testing positive for COVID-19. He was scheduled to have a boxing match against a Puerto Rican opponent named Emmanuel Rodriguez but the fight was ultimately canceled.
