A lot of people admire Candy Pangilinan for her strength, patience, and ability to observe tolerance when dealing with her 17-year old son, Quentin, who has been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD and has special needs.

However, Candy considers what other people see as hardship as a blessing to her.
She said that Quentin changed her for the better and she could not imagine what her life could have been if her son did not arrive.
“I think binago ni Quentin ang buhay ko,” Candy, who is also a single mom, said.
Everyone knows that Candy singlehandedly raised and cared fo Quentin after she and her husband, Gilbert Alvarado, separated.
When asked how is her relationship with her son, Candy said it has become even better.
“Ay okay naman kami. Mas naging close kami. Nakakaimbento kami ng mga dapat gawin. Kahit na hindi namin dapat gawin, ginagawa namin. Alam mo yun,” the actress-comedienne said in her interview on Magandang Buhay.
When asked what is her message to her son, Candy became emotional while telling her son she is thankful for having him.
“Thank you very much for being you. Maraming nagtatanong sa akin, kung uulitin ko raw ang buhay ko, kung okay lang na si Quentin ulit ang maging anak ko, yes,” Candy said.
The actress said she has learned to accept everything.
“Ayos lang. Okay lang. Tanggap ko na. Parati ko ngang sinasabi na Quentin is my ticket to heaven, and I think more than na binago ko ang buhay ni Quenin, I think binago ni Quentin ang buhay ko,” Candy said.

During the early 90s, she starred in supporting roles in romantic comedy films such as “Hindi Magbabago” with Carmina Villaroel in 1994 and 1997, Dahil Ba Sa Kanya as a lead role alongside Aga Muhlach, Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski and Onemig Bondoc and “Sige Subukan Mo” with Ace Vergel and Maricel Soriano. 1998 in “Kung Ayaw Mo Huwag Mo” her second time working with Maricel Soriano and Jolina Magdangal, “Honey, Nasa Langit Na Ba Ako” with Regine Velasquez and in 2000 in “Ayos Na Ang Kasunod” with Fernando Poe, Jr. and Ara Mina. In 2016, Candy won best actress for CineFilipino and Los Angeles International Film Festival for the movie “Star na si Van Damme.”

Early this month, Candy shared with Toni Gonzaga how her ex-husband cheated on her. She already saw signs of infidelity before they tied the knot but she thought that he would change. The actress finally was able to confirm that he was still cheating on her when she saw a bra that did not belong to her. Candy’s ex-husband left her and their child and never came back after he said that he was going to play golf.
On Mother’s Day, Candy received a heartwarming surprise from her son, Quentin. On the said occasion, Quentin, together with his aunt, prepared an intimate "double celebration" for Candy. In the vlog, which they shared online, Candy celebrated her birthday as well as Mother's Day with her family. According to Candy, she could not believe her son managed to do such preparations on his own.
