The Facebook post of the heartbreaking story of a father peddling raw corn while carrying his one-month old infant has now gone viral.
A Facebook user, by the name of Cristina Magpuyo Birao, chanced upon the man while going to her place of work.
Being a member of Task Force Disiplina, one of Birao’s tasks is to accost those who are illegally selling their wares on the streets.
Upon hearing his story, however, Birao decided to let this one pass and even gave the man some cash to help him and his baby get through the day.
Birao asked the man his story, which he then narrated. According to the young father, his wife left him and also left behind their one-month old baby.
The young father had no choice but to face the everyday challenges of life with his month-old baby.
He said that since he doesn’t know anyone whom he could trust to care for his baby, he decided to bring her along with him to work.
The Task Force Disiplina member was so moved by the story of the young father that aside from buying corn from him, she also left him with some extra for his baby.
Birao is also calling on kindhearted netizens to help the young father for the sake of his tiny angel.

In the Philippines, many people lost their jobs because of the coronavirus pandemic, with some of them reduced to selling things on the streets to get by. Some of the vendors are also homeless and would go about selling their wares during the day and just sleep wherever they are when night falls. Most of them are exposed to harsh elements, which could cause them to contract a range of illnesses. There have been cases where homeless people have died without anyone knowing they were ill, in the first place. Although there are government and private entity sponsored shelter programs, many of them opt to live on the streets, saying that it offers them a great degree of freedom.

Fortunately, many Filipinos have a good heart and would often render any form of assistance when needed. This is the case of the poor sign pen vendor who also went viral after a netizen saw him and took a photo of him. A kindhearted lady treated the poor vendor to a nearby fast-food chain. The poor vendor was seen sitting near the old City Hall building in Bacolod City. Some netizens said that they knew the old man as someone who would sell pens to students, but despite the suspension of face-to-face classes, he still keeps on selling them.
These vendors were also among the most honest individuals around. Such was the case of a woman from Laoag, Ilocos Norte, who has buzzed the online community after her good deed went viral on social media. The woman, who was later identified to be Alice Baguitan, discovered a bag which contained a huge amount of money. The bag, which contained over Php 2.7 million, was left by a woman who was eating beside her at a fast-food restaurant. According to Alice, she immediately chased after the woman to return her belongings and even refused to accept her cash prize.
