- Social media went on fire Sunday afternoon with reports of the death of former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada, which turned out to be a hoax

- The former president was rushed to the hospital last week after complaining of breathing difficulties

- He was immediately subjected to a swab test in the hospital’s emergency room where he was found positive for COVID-19

- In an update several hours after Pres. Erap was admitted, Sen. Jinggoy said he was in stable condition

News of the death of former President Joseph "Erap" Estrada took social media by storm in the afternoon of Easter Sunday, April 4, a report that Sen. Jinggoy Estrada immediately dismissed as a hoax..

It can be recalled that the former president underwent COVID-19 test days before and he turned up negative.

Days after, however, he was rushed to the hospital after he complained having difficulty breathing.

Upon his arrival to the hospital’s emergency room, he was again subjected to another COVID-19 test and this time, he was found positive.

He was immediately admitted and several hours after, Sen. Jinggoy went live on Facebook to inform everyone that his father is stable.

On Sunday afternoon, reports surfaced that former President Joseph Estrada succumbed to COVID-19 and has died.

Upon learning of the depressing news, former Sen. Jinggoy took to social media to denounce the reports.

“There are reports circulating on FB that my father has passed away. This is NOT true,” Sen. Jinggoy wrote in a post.

“He is still in the hospital recuperating. Whoever is behind this fake news is so unchristian. You do not wish bad things to anyone, no matter if you don’t like the person,” the former senator further said.

“Wag po tayong maniniwala sa mga maling balita. Totoo pong hanggang ngayon ay nasa ospital pa si Mayor Erap dahil sa Covid-19 pero nasa stable condition po siya,” Sen. Jinggoy added.

He also asked for prayers from everyone. “Gayunpaman humihingi pa rin po ng dasal ang pamilyang Ejercito-Estrada para sa tuluyang niyang pag-galing. Maraming salamat po. Stay safe everyone! God bless!” former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said.

In 2001, he became the first president in Asia to be impeached from an executive role and resigned from power.

On March 28, Erap Estrada was rushed to the hospital after he was noticed to be weakening. The former president tested positive for COVID-19. His son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada said that his father is now in stable condition. Jinggoy is also asking for prayers for his father who is already 83 years old.

Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada himself went on self-quarantine because of his close contact with his father. He went live on Facebook and provided updates on the condition of his father, former president Joseph Estrada. The senator recounted the events that transpired before he brought Erap to the hospital. According to him, Erap, along with his mom, tested negative, and so they went home. However, on Sunday, he noticed that Erap was having difficulty breathing and it was then that they brought Erap to the hospital and turned up positive.
