After almost two decades of acting, Angelica Panganiban has decided to retire from appearing on TV soap operas, particularly those that involve heavy dramas.
The actress is known for her various roles in TV series like that of ABS-CBN’s “Walang Hanggang Paalam.”
Angelica said it was not a hasty decision. “Yung decision naman na yun hindi naman yun overnight. Siyempre ilang taon kong iniisip,” she said.
The “That Thing Called Tadhana” star shared that sometimes, she looks at all the effort she pours into the project and then begins to wonder why she is doing such.
“Bakit ko pinapagod ng ganito yung sarili ko?’ and to think na simula six years old ako pinapagod ko na sarili ko. So parang kelan ka titigil? Tapos parang may mga question ako sa sarili ko na, ‘Ano pa ba ang gusto kong i-prove?’ Lalung-lalo na pagdating sa teleserye,” Angelica revealed in an interview with ABS-CBN.
The actress also said that she does not want that time to come that she would be appearing on soap operas only for money.
“Hindi naman sa nawawalan ako ng gana kaya lang ayokong umabot ako dun na hindi ko na gusto yung ginagawa ko bago ko siya tigilan,” Angelica shared.
She revealed she wants to leave soap operas with a high degree of respect for the work and a lot of beautiful memories in all TV series she has done.
The actress said that she does not want people to say that her TV soap acting is lackluster because she no longer wants to do it, which is why she does it while she is still able to give her 100% to “teleseryes.”
The Kapamilya star also said that part of her decision to retire from making TV series is that she wants to avoid getting burned-out in doing soaps, adding that making a “teleserye” and movie flicks, while different, are both very difficult.
“Okay na ako. Masaya na ako sa mga nagawa ko. Parang puwede ko na ito ibigay sa mga susunod na generation. Sila naman. Kaya naman nila yan,” Angelica said with finality.
