Angel Locsin gave a deep, insightful and important interview on Bianca Gonzalez’s YouTube vlog.

The Kapamilya star pointed out that many Filipinos prefer their male leaders to have a strong personality and to be opinionated but want women to remain quiet, submissive, and demure.

She said that people do this unconsciously due to the prejudice they inherited from past generations.

According to the actress, she is hoping that the Filipino society will progress beyond this stigma so that women can safely voice their opinions and show their strong personalities.

"Kung mapapansin mo, sa lahat ng mga leader sa bansa natin... 'yung pagiging opinionated [or having] strong personality, ito 'yung mga personalities or traits, behaviors na nakikita natin sa mga kalalakihan na gusto natin maging leader. Pero pagdating sa kababaihan ay hindi natin gusto.
"Hindi 'to issue kung ano 'yung kayang gawin ng mga kababaihan, kung hindi 'yung kultura na natin. Merong stigma. Ito 'yung mga namana na natin unconsciously sa mga ninuno pa natin, sa society, sa kultura natin, kung papaano ba 'to talaga ang behavior ng isang kababaihan. Tapos kapag hindi ka nag-conform doon, 'pag hindi ka sweet, 'pag hindi ka soft, 'pag hindi ka caring, 'pag hindi ka tahimik, 'pag hindi ka mahinhin, 'pag hindi ka masunurin sa asawa mo, 'pag hindi ka, 'yes, sir, yes, sir' lang, hindi ka na 'likeable.’

"Nandodoon pa rin tayo sa stage na 'yun and nakakalungkot na, for me, kulang pa ang effort nating lahat para ma-prevent 'yun, especially sa workplace natin, para maging comfortable and safe place sa lahat ng mga kababaihan," Angel said.

Angel Locsin is a famous actress and endorser in the Philippines, best known for her portrayal of the superhero Darna.
