- Local cinemas in General Community Quarantine (GCQ) areas are set to reopen today, Feb. 15
- This was announced by Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairman Liza Diño-Seguerra
- She said that they have been lobbying for the appeal since last year to allow cinemas to reopen
- The agency is in touch with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for the release of the guidelines on cinema reopening
It may be good news for all moviegoers as Liza Diño-Seguerra has already announced that today is the reopening of local cinemas. The announcement was made on her Facebook account on Feb. 13.
She said that they were super excited about the reopening of cinemas considering that they have been lobbying for it since last year.
"FDCP is currently in touch with DTI for the release of the final protocols so we can share them with the public. DTI has advised that the guidelines presented to the IATF and the Memorandum Circular on the recategorization of cinemas from Category 4 to Category 3, which now allows cinemas to operate in GCQ areas, will be released as early as February 15."
Diño also encouraged moviegoers to watch local films since they have seen that despite opening last year in MGCQ areas, cinemas were 90 percent empty.
