A family celebration in Stockton, northern California, turned tragic on Saturday night after gunfire broke out during a child’s birthday party, leaving four people dead and a total of 14 individuals injured.

Local officials confirmed the fatal shooting happened near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue shortly before 6:00 p.m.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee addressed the incident in a Facebook post.
“I am in contact with staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened,” he says.

He added that he intends to push for immediate answers as the community reacts to the shocking violence.
Authorities responded after receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the neighborhood.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office later released an update on X.
“We can confirm at this time that approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire,” the post states.
The office also confirmed that four victims had already been declared dead at the scene.
Investigators said the case remains in its early stages, and many details have yet to be clarified.
“This is a very active and ongoing investigation,” the sheriff’s office notes.
Officials added that evidence so far points to the possibility that the attack was targeted, but they stressed that all angles are being examined.
No information has been released regarding the shooter, and police have not announced any arrests.
