US chess grandmaster and educator Daniel Naroditsky has died at 29.

His family confirmed the news through the Charlotte Chess Center, describing him as a talented player, commentator, and educator loved by many. They remembered him for his passion for chess and the joy he brought to others.

Chess.com, where Naroditsky often played and streamed, shared that his warmth and influence reached countless fans and players across the world.

The platform called him a “friend and brother” to many in the chess community.

Top players also paid tribute. Hikaru Nakamura expressed being devastated, saying it was a huge loss for the chess world.

Danny Rensch added that the news was heartbreaking and said Naroditsky was more than an amazing player — he was family.

Born in California to immigrant parents, Naroditsky made his mark early after winning the Under 12 division at the 2007 World Youth Chess Championship.

He became a grandmaster in 2013 and was once among the top five junior players worldwide.

At the time of his death, he ranked 17th in the US and among the world’s top 150. Aside from competing, he was a beloved chess streamer and YouTuber.

Just three days before his death, he uploaded what would be his last “speedrun” video.

Naroditsky, known to many as “Danya,” also wrote books and chess puzzles for The New York Times.

He was a resident grandmaster at the Charlotte Chess Center and a teacher who inspired thousands to love the game.

Police authorities said the school has a security guard, but, being a familiar face in the school, the suspect managed to easily get in and out of the school. The suspect said he was there to talk to his wife and settle their misunderstanding, but unfortunately, it led to a big arguement.
