A 23-year-old suspect, identified as Robin Westman, opened fire from outside the church, shooting through a window at the congregation, which was primarily composed of children and teachers.

According to a report from the Hennepin Emergency Medical Services, the 10-year-old hero's actions were captured by witnesses who saw him deliberately throw himself over a smaller child.

The young boy was hit in the back by a shotgun blast, an injury he sustained while protecting his peer.

Martin Scheerer, the director of Hennepin Emergency Medical Services, praised the child and other "unrecognized heroes," including teachers who were seen shielding students from the gunfire.

The shooting, which left 18 people wounded and two children dead, was an act of extreme malice.

Authorities, including Joe Thompson, the acting U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, have confirmed that the suspect, who later died after taking his own life, was "obsessed with the idea of killing children."

A manifesto left behind by Westman reportedly revealed that he wanted to "watch children suffer," a motive that underscores the brutal and senseless nature of the attack.

The suspect was heavily armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol, all of which he used during the assault on the victims who were inside the church.

The sheer volume of firepower in the hands of the assailant made the heroism of the student and teachers all the more remarkable, as they prioritized the safety of others over their own in a moment of extreme danger.

While the community grapples with the grief and trauma from the tragedy, the extraordinary bravery of the 10-year-old boy and the teachers offers a glimmer of light.

Their quick-thinking and courageous actions likely saved more lives, turning a moment of unimaginable terror into a testament to the human spirit's capacity for selflessness and love.
