Lima ang nasawi matapos bumangga ang isang tourist bus sa highway sa New York nitong Biyernes, ayon sa pulisya.

Ayon sa ulat, nangyari ang aksidente sa may 25 milya (40 kilometro) silangan ng Buffalo habang pabalik na ang mga turista sa New York City matapos bisitahin ang Niagara Falls.

Kinumpirma ng mga awtoridad na ang mga biktima ay mula sa India, China, at Pilipinas.

Sa isang advisory, sinabi ng Philippine Consulate General sa New York na “keeping in its thoughts and prayer” ang mga naapektuhan ng trahedya.

“It’s believed the operator became distracted, lost control, over-corrected and ended up... over there,” pahayag ni Major Andre Ray ng New York State Police, na nag-anunsyo ng bilang ng mga nasawi sa lugar ng aksidente.

Nilinaw rin niyang walang ibang pasahero ang nasa kritikal na kondisyon. Ilan ay sumailalim sa gamutan at agad ding pinalabas.

Batay sa ulat ng US media, nasa 54 katao ang sakay ng bus nang mangyari ang aksidente.

Nilinaw rin na walang batang kabilang sa mga nasawi, taliwas sa naunang briefing ng pulisya.

Ayon sa state broadcaster ng China na CCTV, anim na Chinese nationals ang sakay ng bus; lima ang nagtamo ng minor injuries at nakalabas na ng ospital, habang ang isa ay sumasailalim sa operasyon.

Ang biyahe ng bus ay galing Niagara Falls at pauwi na sa New York City nang mangyari ang malagim na aksidente sa highway malapit sa Pembroke.
