American actor and 1960s heartthrob Richard Chamberlain has passed away. He was 90 years old.

According to a report by CNN, he died on Saturday, March 29, 2025 in Hawaii of complications following a stroke, his publicist Harlan Boll confirmed in a statement.

The late three-time Golden Globe winner would have turned 91 on Monday, March 31.

Chamberlain first rose to prominence after playing a handsome young physician in the TV medical drama, “Dr. Kildare.” The series ran from 1961-1966. In 1963, Chamberlain won a Golden Globe for best male TV star for his performance as Dr. Kildare.

On the stage, the actor played the title role in "Hamlet" for the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in England, as per Yahoo's article. He likewise appeared in "My Fair Lady" and "The Sound of Music" on Broadway. Also, Chamberlain played King Arthur on the national tour of the musical "Spamalot."

His other TV and movie appearances included "The Drew Carey Show," "Nip/Tuck," "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry," "Brothers & Sisters" and "We are the Hartmans."

In the 1980s, he earned the title of "King of the Miniseries" when he appeared in "Centennial," "Shogun," and "The Thorn Birds."

Born in Los Angeles, California, Richard Chamberlain grew up in Beverly Hills with his parents and older brother Bill. He earned a bachelor’s degree in arts from Pomona College. After graduating, Chamberlain joined the US Army and served 16 months in Korea, where he earned the rank of sergeant. Chamberlain is survived by his longtime partner, Martin Rabbett.
