Brielle was among the multiple young skaters who were returning to Washington D.C. with their parents after attending a camp in Kansas.
During his interview with ABC News, Andy recalled the moment he found out about the tragedy.
He said he had been at the airport with their 6-year-old son, waiting for his wife and daughter.
"When it was time for the plane to land, they hadn't landed [and] we couldn't get text messages through," he said, recalling that he had also seen a bunch of "fire trucks and everything."
"I didn't have a lot of hope unfortunately, we had a good cry about it right then and there, and then we had to go in with the family waiting room and everything before we, hours later, got any official word of what had fully happened," Andy told ABC News about what had happened.
