Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy got mostly negative reviews for hosting the 2024 Golden Globes at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Many netizens said that Jo Koy seemed to be nervous while delivering his lines in front of Hollywood elites and that most of his jokes fell flat.

During his monologue, Jo Koy explained that he got the hosting job just 10 days ago so people should not expect a perfect monologue. He added that some of the jokes he was saying were not funny because other writers wrote those jokes for him.

On her Twitter account, Filipino television host Gretchen Ho expressed her disappointment over Jo Koy’s performance and his explanation. According to Gretchen, hosts are always responsible for their scripts and that Jo Koy wasted a huge opportunity to show off his comedic talent.

“Hosts are always, always responsible for their scripts. Whether it’s your own or not, at the end of the day, it’s your face and career on the line. This was such a huge stage, and a wasted opportunity,” Gretchen tweeted.

Gretchen Ho is a television host and former volleyball player in the Philippines. She played volleyball for the Ateneo Lady Eagles from 2008 to 2013. Her popularity rose when she became a co-host on Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol, and The Score.

In one of her previous Instagram posts, Gretchen shared a photo where all members of her family, except for her late father, were seen celebrating the birthday of the TV hosts’ eldest brother. In her caption, Gretchen noted that it is the first birthday celebration that her father is not in attendance. She is of the opinion, however, that her family has grown stronger ever since her Dad passed away. The TV host also remarked that her eldest brother is not the “Padre de Pamilya,” then jokingly signed it with “your mortal enemy.”

Gretchen also jokingly shared on social media that she used to spend many of her college breaks at the chapel. She then said that she goes there and sits “on the far end of the pew,” not only to pray but also to sleep. The TV presenter also said that no one else knows that she’s sleeping there. Gretchen then surmised that perhaps God would not mind if she sleeps there as she would always ask permission if she could rest at the chapel.
