Paralympic champion Paige Greco has died at the age of 28. AusCycling announced her passing in an Instagram post and said she died at her home in Adelaide after a sudden medical episode.

Her mother Natalie shared a statement through the organization and said their family is devastated by her loss but deeply proud of the person she was. She added that Paige showed kindness, determination, and warmth every day.

AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner described her as an extraordinary athlete who reached the highest levels of the sport.

Paralympics Australia CEO Cameron Murray also honored her and said her achievements were remarkable, but it was her gentle spirit and the way she lifted people up that will be remembered the most.

She missed the selection rounds for last year's Paris Paralympics due to health problems but was able to return to elite competition this year.

She also joined the Para Track World Championships last month, according to The Guardian.

Greco, who had cerebral palsy, first entered sports through track and field before shifting to cycling in 2018.

Her career was filled with victories. She earned several World Cup medals and World Championship titles.

She also gave Australia its first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

In Tokyo, she set a new record in the women’s C1–3 3,000m individual pursuit and later secured two bronze medals in the women’s C1–3 road race and time trial.
