A dramatic attempted kidnapping in Paris was thwarted after a masked gang tried to abduct the daughter and young grandson of a prominent cryptocurrency executive in the city’s 11th district on Tuesday morning, BBC reported.

The attempted abduction, which took place around 8:20 a.m., was captured on video by a bystander and quickly circulated on social media.

According to police sources, three masked men leapt out of a white van and attempted to seize the woman and her child, who are relatives of the co-founder of French Bitcoin exchange platform Paymium.

The woman, who according to CNN was pregnant, and her husband was with them and tried to defend his family, suffering repeated blows to the head in the process, which could be seen from the video shared by GMA News.

During the struggle, the woman managed to disarm one of the attackers, grabbing what was later identified as a replica air gun and throwing it into the street.

The attack occurred on a busy street as children were on their way to a nearby school.

Initially, onlookers hesitated to intervene, but as the confrontation escalated, passers-by rushed to help.

The attackers ultimately abandoned the abduction attempt and fled the scene in the van, driven by a fourth accomplice. One bystander hurled a fire extinguisher at the vehicle as it sped off.

The victims were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

Rensales, a stroke survivor, felt dizzy and collapsed shortly after casting his vote at Oas South Central Elementary School, ABS-CBN reported. His wife shared that he insisted on voting despite the heat and early crowd, believing his vote still mattered. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
