It can be recalled that on Saturday, April 26, the late pontiff’s casket was taken there after his funeral Mass in St. Peter's Square. The coffin was placed in a simple tomb in a side aisle of the basilica.
As seen in the photos, the pope’s name in Latin, "Franciscvs", is inscribed on top of the marble tomb.
A reproduction of the plain cross that he used to wear around his neck is also placed above the niche illuminated by a single spotlight. A white rose was also pictured lying on the tomb.
