According to AP News, Farrell revealed in the heartbreaking announcement that the well-loved pontiff died on Monday morning, April 21, 2025.

“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church,″ Farrell said in the announcement.

“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalized,” Farrell continued, paying tribute to the late head of the Roman Catholic Church.

“With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite, merciful love of God, One and Tribune,” he added.

It is worth noting that Francis’ demise came a day after his appearance at Saint Peter's Square on Easter Sunday.

"Happy Easter," he said in a weak voice from his wheelchair on the balcony of St Peter's Basilica, which received cheers from the crowd, estimated at more than 35,000 people.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, the Argentine pope’s convalescence from pneumonia has kept him away from most Holy Week events but Francis made a major effort on Sunday, waving at the crowd and blessing babies from his popemobile for nearly 15 minutes.
