- A 28-day old newborn baby died of suffocation when her drunk father allegedly slept on top of her

- The tragic incident happened inside the family's home in Khanapur town of Nirmal district at Subash Nagar

- According to articles of PhilSTAR Life and The Times of India, the incident happened between 5 to 6 in the morning of May 20 when the baby's father, Alakunta Shekar, 22, arrived home

- The alleged suspect came back to their in-laws’ home where victim and her mother, Sujatha, were both asleep

Afternoon of the same day, the infant's grandmother, Allepu Rajamani, went to the police station. She filed a complaint against Shekar, whom according to her, fought with Sujatha the night before the incident happened.

Shekar allegedly insisted on bringing Sujatha home right after delivering their child.

"On May 19 night, Shekar came to our house, knocked, and kicked the door multiple times, demanding to take his wife home. We didn't allow him in,” Rajamani said.

Rajamani also added that the next morning, Shekar even went inside of their room and went straight to bed without even noticing that their newborn child was there, covered in a bedsheet.

“My daughter woke up and screamed when she realized what had happened,” she said. “We turned on the light, and when Shekar got up, we saw the baby bleeding from the nose.”

They managed to immediately bring the poor baby to the hospital for immediate medical attention, but she was declared dead on arrival.

According to Times of India, authorities confirmed that Shekar has already been arrested and that an investigation about the incident is already ongoing.
