Reportedly, the country's lack of awareness made a huge impact in the number of injured and casualties.
More than 1,600 deaths in Myanmar and 14 in Thailand, and more than 3,400 people were reportedly injured from the earthquake.
The collapsed 33-story skyscraper was being built for the State Audit Office of Thailand, with construction commencing in 2020 and the building topping out in April 2024.
At the time of the earthquake, the structure was nearing completion, with internal installations and the glass facade being added.
The joint venture responsible for the project included Italian-Thai Development and the China Railway Engineering Corporation.
