In a report by Julius Babao in TV 5's 'Frontline Pilipinas,' the missing rider was found, but already lifeless inside the sinkhole that's more than 100 feet deep.
Investigations as to how the sinkhole appeared are still ongoing.
Sinkholes occur when underground rock dissolves over time, creating cavities that eventually cause the surface to collapse.
Natural factors such as heavy rainfall, underground water flow, and droughts followed by sudden rain can weaken the ground, making it prone to sinkholes.
Human activities like excessive groundwater extraction, construction, leaking drainage systems, and mining also contribute to their formation by disturbing underground stability.
These collapses can develop gradually or happen suddenly, depending on the extent of erosion and ground weakening.
Preventing sinkholes involves monitoring groundwater levels, improving drainage systems, and ensuring responsible land use practices.
