As it turned out, the candle in her birthday cake touched on of the balloons, resulting in them to explode simultaneously.
In a report by Ivan Mayrina, the balloons were filled with Hydrogen which resulted in the explosion.
The birthday celebrant sustained first and second degree burns in her face.
Hydrogen-filled balloons explode because hydrogen is highly flammable and reacts easily with oxygen in the air. When exposed to a spark, flame, or even static electricity, hydrogen gas undergoes a rapid combustion reaction, producing water vapor and releasing a large amount of heat.
This reaction, known as hydrogen oxidation, is highly exothermic and causes the balloon to burst violently. Unlike helium, which is an inert gas, hydrogen is reactive, making it dangerous for use in balloons near open flames or electrical sources.
