Tragedy struck an elementary school in Daejeon, South Korea, on Monday evening, leaving a community in shock. An eight-year-old student lost her life in a stabbing incident, and a teacher is currently under investigation.

ABS-CBN News, quoting the Yonhap News Agency, said local authorities responded to the school following a missing person report filed by the young girl's parents when she didn't arrive at her scheduled private art class.

The child was participating in after-school care at the elementary school before her art lesson. Around 6:00 p.m., police discovered the student and a female teacher, in her 40s, both suffering from stab wounds.

The young girl was immediately transported to a hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries. The teacher also sustained injuries, believed to be self-inflicted, to her neck and arm. She underwent emergency surgery, and authorities plan to resume questioning her after her recovery.

ABS-CBN News, quoting Yonhap's report, stated that the teacher had previously taken a leave of absence due to depression and had only recently returned to the school late last year. This information is now part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

This devastating incident has shaken the community and raised concerns, even within the context of South Korea's generally low crime rate.

Last year saw a series of high-profile violent crimes, including several stabbings. One incident in August involved a high school teacher in Daejeon being attacked with a knife. Coincidentally, Daejeon is the same city where Monday's tragedy occurred.

The husband of the accused was not convicted since there was no sufficient evidence that would show he has knowledge of the actions of his wife.

Still in other news, an E-bike rider is now on the run and is hiding from authorities after he struck a truck with a hammer. Based on the report of GMA News, the e-bike swerved and overtook the bigger truck, which in turn resulted in the driver honking at him. This did not sit well with the e-bike rider, hence, he took out a hammer and started hammering the truck. He also allegedly punched the driver of the truck, but unfortunately, the said punching incident was not recorded on camera.
