Vince Zampella, the renowned co-creator of the globally acclaimed video game franchise Call of Duty, has died in a tragic car accident, gaming giant Electronic Arts confirmed on Monday. He was 55.

According to NBC4, Zampella was driving his Ferrari on a scenic road north of Los Angeles on Sunday when the accident occurred. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that "for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the roadway, struck a concrete barrier, and became fully engulfed." The CHP statement further noted that both the driver and a passenger, who was ejected from the vehicle, succumbed to their injuries. The identities of the victims were not disclosed in the initial report.
Zampella's passing was also confirmed by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the game studio he co-founded. A spokesperson for EA expressed the company’s deep sorrow, telling the BBC, "This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his loved ones, and all those touched by his work."
