Swedish actor Bjorn Andresen, who gained international fame as a teenager for his role in Luchino Visconti’s 1971 classic Death in Venice, has died at the age of 70, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

His death was confirmed by filmmaker Kristina Lindstrom, who told AFP that Andresen passed away on Saturday, October 25, after battling cancer. She said they had “learned about it from his daughter.”
Andresen was only 15 when he was cast as Tadzio, the ethereal young boy who captivated composer Gustav von Aschenbach in the award-winning film. The role made him a global cultural figure and earned him the label “the most beautiful boy in the world,” a title that shaped his public image for decades.

Lindstrom, who directed a 2021 documentary about his life, described Andresen as “courageous” for openly sharing his personal struggles.

Born on January 26, 1955, in Stockholm, Sweden, Andresen grew up without a father and lost his mother at the age of 10. He was raised by his grandparents and briefly studied music before being discovered by Visconti, who cast him at just 15 years old.
