”I was one of the few blessed to touch Pope Leo XIV today,” Cosim wrote, describing the encounter as a moment of grace she couldn’t quite put into words. She shared photos and clips from the event, capturing her emotional moment with the newly elected pontiff.

Earlier in the day, Pope Leo XIV addressed members of the media at Paul VI Hall, delivering what Cosim called a “beautiful message about the power of truth, compassion, and responsible storytelling.” According to Cosim, the Pope emphasized the importance of journalists in fostering unity in a divided world. “He reminded us that in a world filled with noise and division, our words should be instruments of hope, healing, and unity,” she said.

Cosim expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to be present at what she described as a historic occasion. “I’m beyond grateful to have witnessed this historic moment,” she added.

In a later post, Cheryl added: “Pambihirang pagkakataon. A once-in-a-lifetime moment I’ll never forget. I feel deeply blessed to have come so close to Pope Leo XIV.”

The audience with journalists was among Pope Leo XIV’s first public engagements since ascending to the papacy, and it reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue, truth, and peace—a tone that resonated strongly with many in the media, including Cosim.

Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, made history as the first American to be elected to the papacy. Born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1955, he entered religious life early and became a member of the Augustinian Order. He was ordained a priest in 1982 and served in various capacities, including as a missionary in Peru, where he gained deep pastoral experience and a reputation for humility, compassion, and strong leadership.

As reported earlier, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago has been elected as Pope Leo XIV, becoming the first American pope in history. He is also the first Augustinian to become pope and was previously head of the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops. In his first address, he emphasized unity, peace, and walking together as members of the Church. His election followed Pope Francis’ death and was announced after white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel.

In another report, U.S. Pres. Donald Trump took to social media and congratulated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost becoming the first American to be elected pope. He called the moment a “Great Honor for our Country,” underscoring national pride in the achievement. Trump expressed his eagerness to meet Pope Leo XIV, describing the future encounter as “very meaningful”.
