Despite her remarkable performance in the Game 2 Finals of the UAAP Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, three-time MVP and volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez claims that her teammates and coaches were the real MVPs.
The graduating team captain led the Ateneo Lady Eagles to a sensational win last Wednesday, April 27, to force rival De La Salle Lady Spikers to a do-or-die Game 3 this Saturday, April 30.
The Lady Spikers were just one set away from winning Game 2 when Valdez managed to pull her team up with her impressive gameplay.
Aside from winning her third consecutive MVP title, Valdez also received her third straight Best Server award and her fourth consecutive Best Scorer award after finishing the season with 243 points.
Valdez, however, refuses to credit herself for the team’s victory.
In an article published on ABS CBN News Online, Valdez said: "Each and every one in my team, if given a chance, bibigyan ko sila individually ng award (I will give them individual awards.)”
"If you can really see them in training – they are the ones who give so much effort and sacrifice, and they don't ask for anything," she added.
Valdez was also proud of her younger teammates: "I admire these kids, these young generation… Even with great pressure, even with great responsibility, they will perform, no matter what."
While extremely happy and thankful for their recent victory, Valdez said that they still have bigger responsibilities on Saturday as they go head-to-head once again with De La Salle for the third and final game of their championship series.
