Meralco, Alaska ends in a tie after Game 2 PBA Semifinals

The Meralco Bolts pulled off an upset to even their semis match with the Alaska Aces via a 92-87 victory on Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Down by 77-63 in the early parts of the fourth quarter, Meralco made a 17-2 run to wrestle the control from Alaska. Jared Dillinger starred in Meralco’s telling rally with 13 points, including two triples that broke the 82-all count and pushed his team ahead of the Aces. He finished with 20 points and was adjudged as the best player of the game.

The Meralco Bolts were able to space the floor well and hit their shots when Alaska concentrated its defense on import Arinze Onuaku. Onuaku led the Bolts with a double-double stat line of 22 points and 14 boards. Rookie Chris Newsome and veteran Reynel Hugnatan chipped in 19 and 15 markers, respectively.

Import Rob Dozier powered the Aces with 28 points along with 10 rebounds and three blocks. Calvin Abueva added 18 points, while Cyrus Baguio and Chris Banchero contributed 10 and 9 markers, respectively. Rj Jazul was held down to just four points, after finishing with 18 in their series opener.

The pivotal Game 3 in the best-of-five series will be played at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
