Former Choco Mucho volleyball player Cindy Imbo passes away

Former volleyball player Cindy Imbo, who previously played for Choco Mucho in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), has died at age 31 after a battle with cancer.

Cindy’s passing was announced by the Coast Guard Special Service Office, where she served as a Seawoman Second Class (SW2) in the Philippine Coast Guard. In a Facebook post, the office expressed deep grief over the loss of one of its own and honored her years of service.

The statement began by acknowledging the sadness felt by the organization and those who worked closely with her. “You will be sorely missed, SW2 Cindy Imbo PCG,” the post read.

The office then formally announced her death, noting the collective mourning within the Philippine Coast Guard. It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of SW2 Cindy Imbo PCG,” the statement continued.

The Coast Guard Special Service Office went on to highlight Cindy’s dedication to her duties, particularly her role at the Coast Guard Special Service Center. SW2 Imbo served the Philippine Coast Guard, in particular the Coast Guard Special Service Center, with dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment,” the post stated.

It further emphasized that her contributions would not be forgotten by the organization she served.Her service and contributions will be remembered with honor, and her loss is deeply felt by the entire PCG family,” the message added.

Extending sympathy to those left behind, the office addressed her loved ones and colleagues during this difficult period. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” the statement read, adding a message of comfort. “May we find comfort in remembering her life of service and the positive impact she made on those she worked with.”

The post concluded by saying that additional information would be shared at a later time and by honoring Cindy’s memory. “Further details will be announced in due course. Rest in peace, SW2 Cindy Imbo PCG. Your service and legacy will never be forgotten,” it said.

Beyond her role in the Philippine Coast Guard, Cindy was also known in the local volleyball scene. She played as an outside hitter for the University of Perpetual Help during her collegiate career, where she developed her skills and competitive edge.

After college, Cindy joined several club teams in the now-defunct Philippine Superliga, including F2 Logistics, Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, and Navy. She later suited up for Choco Mucho from 2019 to 2020 in the Premier Volleyball League, becoming part of the team during its early campaigns.

Cindy Imbo is not the only sports figure to have died recently, as news of other notable personalities’ passing has also been reported.

Former PBA player, champion coach, and Olympian Jimmy Mariano has died at 84, the league announced on December 7. The PBA extended condolences to his family while honoring his contributions to Philippine basketball. Mariano was remembered as a skilled left-handed shooter and one of the pioneering big men who could score from long range. He also led Presto to the 1990 All-Filipino Conference title, leaving a lasting legacy as both player and coach.

In a report last August, Israel Osamudiame, 19, a Nigerian center and new member of the University of the Philippines men’s basketball team, passed away after collapsing during practice on August 19. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be revived. The university said it remained in close contact with his family, offered full support, and requested privacy as they mourned his tragic loss.
