Actress Alma Concepcion came to the defense of her close friend Sylvia Sanchez and Sylvia’s son, Congressman Arjo Atayde, as the family continues to face allegations online linking their wealth to politics. The issue resurfaced after Arjo’s name was dragged by Sarah and Curlee Discaya into the ongoing flood control projects controversy, which led to past interviews of Sylvia featuring their yacht and resthouse on the programs of Karen Davila and Korina Sanchez being widely circulated again.

To clear the air, Alma shared photos of herself with Sylvia aboard a yacht, which she said were taken in 2021, a year before Arjo was elected to Congress. “Paki-verify po ang mga petsa. Ang mga ari-arian tulad ng yate, rest houses na binabanggit sa balita ay nakita na namin noong 2021. Si Congressman Arjo Atayde ay nahalal noong 2022. Paki-check po ang timeline kung kailan na acquire ang mga ari-arian nila bago maghusga,” Alma stressed. She also pointed out the resthouse seen in Sylvia’s interview with Korina Sanchez, saying: “Eto ang rest house na na feature ni Ms. K with Sylvia Sanchez and paki tignan ang petsa. Nabili nila bago pa man naka upo si Cong. Arjo.”
Meanwhile, Arjo Atayde and his wife, actress Maine Mendoza, have already denied the corruption allegations. The couple maintained that their lifestyle and properties come from years of hard work in showbiz and business ventures, not from politics, and called for fairness as online criticism against them continues to mount.
