Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero has lauded the peaceful and orderly execution of the Interpol warrant leading to the arrest of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, emphasizing it as a testament to the Philippines’ commitment to international agreements.

“The peaceful and orderly service of the Interpol warrant—carried out without incident—reflects our nation’s commitment to upholding international agreements, as well as the maturity, civility, calm, and professionalism of all those involved: our law enforcement authorities, former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, his lawyers, and his supporters,” Escudero said.
He underscored the importance of ensuring due process for Duterte as the legal proceedings advance.
”As this legal process unfolds, we expect the International Criminal Court (ICC) to respect the rights of former President Duterte and to ensure that he is afforded due process in accordance with the Rule of Law.”

Escudero acknowledged the strong and varied reactions to the arrest, particularly from both the families of victims of extrajudicial killings and Duterte’s loyal supporters.
“This development will undoubtedly elicit diverse reactions shaped by differing perspectives on the allegations against the former president, from the families of victims of extra-judicial killings to his loyal supporters.”
He urged the public to maintain composure and respect in discussions.
”Debate and disagreement are natural in a democracy, but as we move forward, I urge our kababayans to approach this moment with the restraint and respect displayed yesterday by the protagonists from both sides.”
With the elections approaching, Escudero also warned against using the arrest for political advantage.
“I also call on those running in the midterm elections to refrain from using this issue to fan the flames of partisanship in order to further their candidacies as this is a serious issue that involves lives and should not be trifled with for petty personal or political gain.”
In closing, Escudero called for national unity and a focus on justice. “It is in our nation’s best interests to demonstrate our strength not by division, but by our capacity to rise above our differences and to collectively and peacefully uphold justice and accountability.”

In his post published on Wednesday afternoon, March 12, Go revealed that Duterte is in Dubai. “Tatay Digong is currently in Dubai,” Go wrote along with a couple of photos of Duterte on the plane. The senator went on to urge the public to pray for the former leader.
Previously, Rodrigo Duterte’s granddaughter, Isabelle Duterte, penned a heartfelt message to the former president. In her message posted on Facebook, the daughter of Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte expressed her utmost support for FPRRD. Isabelle further vowed to forever defend her grandfather’s name. She published the earnest message after FPRRD was arrested.
