Quezon City 5th District Councilor Aiko Melendez explained to KAMI why she defended actress Toni Gonzaga after the latter got bashed for being the new endorser of Shopee.
Some of those netizens argued that Gonzaga should not have been hired as a new endorser of Shopee due to the actress allegedly whitewashing the alleged atrocities of the Marcos regime.
According to Melendez, she defended Gonzaga because she believes it was the right thing to do.
The actor-politician believes that a person should not get bashed or boycotted for having a different political view. She is also against boycotting an entire company because one of its endorsers has a different political belief.

“With regards to Toni Gonzaga, I defended her kasi dun ako sa tama.
“Parang there is just too much hate lately nawawala na yung puso ng mga tao. Honestly, I feel bad na just because iba ang political color ni Toni ay damay lahat.
“Sana nakita also nila na kaya siya kinuha ng Shopee ay dahil effective endorser siya. I’m a Lazada user honestly but di ako aabot na a-attack ako on a personal level di ba,” Aiko explained.
