The group called on religious institutions to reconsider methods involving live animals and to adopt more humane alternatives.
“This incident serves as a reminder that all activities, even those with good intentions, must prioritize safety and respect for animals,” the spokesperson added.
At present, the church leadership has not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, PAWS hopes the case will raise awareness and encourage a more ethical approach in future religious presentations.
The organization stressed that promoting kindness toward animals is consistent with broader teachings on empathy and stewardship of all living beings.
PAWS’ warning comes at a time when animal welfare advocacy is gaining stronger attention in the Philippines, and the incident has sparked discussions online about ethical practices in religious events.
Advocates stress that educational and symbolic alternatives can enrich celebrations without causing harm.
