Police investigators are also working to identify individuals who may have been with the victim prior to the incident.
Authorities are looking into the possibility that the injuries sustained by the 19-year-old could be connected to initiation rites, although this has not yet been conclusively established.
The incident has raised concerns anew about the dangers of hazing, particularly among young individuals who may be recruited into organizations requiring initiation activities.
Law enforcement officials assured the public that they are pursuing all leads and coordinating with witnesses to piece together the sequence of events.
Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.
In a separate update, the Bacoor Component City Police identified the man featured in a viral video attempting to open a vehicle as Joel Viola Matados, a resident of General Trias who is dealing with a medical condition. According to his family, Matados had wandered away from home and appeared disoriented at the time of the incident. Motorist Lorie Sy recounted the frightening encounter, saying she stayed locked inside her car while the man repeatedly tugged at her door handle in the middle of traffic. Authorities have asked the public to immediately report any sightings to help ensure Matados’ safety and proper medical attention.
Meanwhile, operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) CALABARZON rescued 10 individuals from an alleged abusive setup at a resort in Laguna on February 19, 2026, following weeks of discreet monitoring. A male suspect was taken into custody for reportedly exploiting victims through social media and arranging illegal transactions for financial gain. He is currently detained without bail and is facing several charges under the Anti-Traff*icking in Persons Act and the Cybercrime Prevention Act. Officials said the rescue forms part of a broader regional crackdown on human rights violations, with advocacy groups working alongside authorities to provide continued assistance and rehabilitation to the survivors.
