According to NBI CALABARZON Regional Director Janet Francisco, the suspect utilized digital platforms to reach potential clients, facilitating transactions that compromised the safety and dignity of the victims.
During the coordinated sting operation, undercover agents posed as clients to verify the illegal activity.
Once the suspect presented the victims at the designated location, the NBI team moved in to secure the area.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently being held at the regional headquarters without the possibility of bail.
The suspect is facing severe legal consequences under the country's expanded laws against illegal recruitment and the mistreatment of vulnerable individuals.
Specifically, the NBI has filed charges citing violations of Republic Act 9208 (the Anti-Tr@fficking in Persons Act) as amended, alongside relevant provisions of the Cybercrime Prevention Act and laws dedicated to the protection of young individuals from abuse.
Regional Director Francisco emphasized that the bureau remains committed to dismantling networks that utilize the internet to facilitate these crimes.
The use of social media for such illicit activities has become a primary focus for investigators in recent years.
The rescue highlights a persistent challenge in the Philippines. Reports from the International Justice Mission indicate that between late 2024 and early 2026, thousands of individuals have been removed from similar precarious situations through aggressive law enforcement intervention.
Furthermore, international monitoring groups have noted a rise in digital-based reports involving the mistreatment of citizens, prompting the government to strengthen its task forces.
The 10 rescued individuals are currently receiving professional support and counseling from social welfare officers to assist in their recovery and reintegration into society.
In other news, a 46-year-old individual was taken into custody for allegedly pilfering mobile devices and handbags from a grocery store's restricted employee area. Digital evidence revealed the perpetrator gained access through a communal lavatory, spending nearly a third of an hour rifling through the workers' personal storage. Law enforcement traced the man via his unique sandals and a getaway bike, which was remarkably the same vehicle linked to his previous release from confinement. During questioning, the detainee admitted to the act, claiming a lack of steady employment and the need to settle domestic utility bills drove him to commit the crime.
Still in other news, Joanna Jonson-Infante, the presiding administrator of the Puerto Princesa International Airport, was the victim of a fatal broad-daylight shooting on Wednesday. Security cameras in Barangay San Pedro documented a solitary armed man closing in on the official as she made her way to a religious service. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued an urgent appeal for a rigorous investigation, expressing deep concern over the safety of their regional leaders. Local police have activated a high-priority "Special Investigation Task Group" to track the killer and determine if the motive was personal or related to her airport duties.
