Authorities from the Villanueva Municipal Police Station, together with the Cagayan de Oro City Animal Welfare Society Inc., investigated the incident and identified the dog’s owner. The owner and tricycle driver admitted they did not realize the dog was still tied while the vehicle was moving. The owner instructed their child to untie the dog and immediately stopped the tricycle when they noticed the situation, GMA Integrated News reported.
The dog is normally tied at night to act as a guard against theft, which explained why it was secured in the first place. Following the incident, the animal welfare group took the dog to a veterinary clinic for examination. The dog was found to be in good health, with only minor scratches on its paws.
After the check-up, the dog was returned to the owner, who assured authorities that the incident would not happen again. No legal charges were filed against the owner or the driver.

The viral clip highlighted the importance of animal welfare and the need for pet owners to ensure the safety of their animals at all times. Authorities continue to urge the public to handle pets responsibly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
In another incident, a dog died after being repeatedly struck with a wooden object by a senior citizen caretaker in a residential area in Cainta. CCTV footage captured the dog approaching a gate before the man allegedly attacked it. A witness tried to bring the injured dog to a veterinarian, but it later succumbed to its injuries. The witness, with the help of an animal rights advocate, is preparing a formal complaint. The suspect claims he acted in self-defense, believing the dog might bite him. Authorities are reviewing the incident, which has sparked public concern over animal abuse and welfare enforcement.
Meanwhile, a viral video showing a horse tied to a moving pickup truck in Misamis Oriental has sparked outrage online and prompted an investigation into possible animal cruelty. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is urging witnesses to come forward to help file a case under the Animal Welfare Act. The horse’s owner, Jose Castro, defended the act as a “controlled training” method to build stamina, insisting the animal is healthy. Advocates argue that forcing a horse to run on asphalt causes extreme distress and may constitute maltreatment. Authorities are reviewing the incident, reigniting debate over traditional training versus animal welfare standards.
