The case began on February 11, when the 19-year-old college student was reported missing by her family after she failed to return home.
A day later, on February 12, residents in Barangay Maddiangat, Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya, discovered charred remains in a secluded grassy area.
Through clothing and personal items, the family later confirmed the identity of the deceased.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Police, the suspect admitted to setting the body on fire in an attempt to destroy any physical evidence linking him to the crime.
However, forensic experts were able to recover vital DNA evidence, including hair strands and bloodstains, from the interior of the tricycle used to transport the victim to the disposal site.
"The presence of these biological markers within the vehicle was a key factor in our initial profiling," a police spokesperson stated.
While the suspect has provided a statement, investigators are currently conducting further tests to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the victim's death.
The brutal nature of the crime has sparked outrage and grief in the local community. The victim, described by friends as a diligent student with a promising future, has become a symbol of the call for increased safety and justice in the province.
The police have assured the public that they are building a foolproof case to ensure the highest possible penalty for the perpetrator.
As of this reporting, the suspect remains in custody and is expected to undergo a formal inquest proceeding.
Authorities are also looking into whether other individuals may have had knowledge of the crime.
In other news, a high-stakes robbery at a Mandaluyong eatery was captured in real-time as a billiard match livestream accidentally recorded the chaotic entry of six armed individuals. The perpetrators reportedly escaped with approximately ₱200,000 in combined assets, including high-end smartphones, jewelry, and cash stolen from both the establishment and its diners. Following the analysis of the digital footage, local police successfully identified two of the men who have existing criminal records involving illegal narcotics and previous thefts. Law enforcement noted that the online broadcast served as a vital "virtual CCTV," as the restaurant itself lacked a physical security camera system to document the crime.
Still in other news, a grisly discovery was made on Sunday night, February 15, 2026. A dismembered male body was found sealed inside a blue plastic drum along the northbound lane of Mel Lopez Boulevard. Two local witnesses informed investigators that they were approached by occupants of a white utility van who paid them to dispose of the heavy container, which was wrapped in clear plastic tape. The Manila Police District has officially formed a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to determine the identity of the victim, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, who sustained a fatal wound to the neck. Authorities found a large quantity of kimchi inside the drum alongside the remains, leading investigators to believe the suspects used the strong-smelling food to mask the odor of the body.
