Man caught on camera stealing over P20,000 worth of cash and belongings in Antipolo, Rizal

Authorities are searching for a man who was caught on camera breaking into a home and stealing more than P20,000 worth of cash and belongings in Antipolo, Rizal.

According to a Tuesday report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the incident happened before dawn on Sunday while the family inside the house was fast asleep. CCTV footage later revealed that the suspect quietly entered the bedroom without waking anyone.

The man was seen taking a sling bag beside the bed and hiding it inside his shorts before grabbing another bag and leaving the room. The family only realized the theft the following morning when several of their personal items were missing.

“'Yung kapatid ko po may pasok po sana ‘yun. So 6 a.m. Hindi po siya nakarinig ng kahit anong alarm kasi nga po nawawala na 'yung phone niya. Ginising din po ako nu’ng asawa ko may pasok naman siya ng 9 a.m. So ngayon ang sabi po nila sa akin, nawawala 'yung cellphone nila tsaka 'yung wallet,” said victim Mary Rose Martinez Bustamante.

After reviewing their room’s CCTV footage, the family confirmed that an intruder had entered their home during the night.

“Kinabahan na ko talaga ma'am kasi napahagis pa ako ng cellphone noon. Tapos sabi ko sa kanila, may nakapasok, sabi ko may tao sa bahay,” Bustamante added.

Some of the stolen bags were later recovered on a nearby street, but more than P10,000 in cash had already been taken. A junk collector also returned a wallet containing only identification cards.

Barangay officials said the suspect is a resident of Barangay Mambugan and has reportedly been involved in previous robbery and carnapping incidents.

“Nakita sa CCTV, sumuko na lang siya para hindi na siya ma-hot list sa mga kapulisan namin. Viral na siya, kaya hinahanap na talaga siya ng kapulisan,” said Barangay Mayamot Task Force team leader Rolando Antonio.

Police continue to search for the suspect, who is expected to face theft charges once arrested.
