The victim, whose identity has been withheld by authorities pending the final investigation, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in a series of events that began with an act of mediation.
The trouble started on Thursday, January 29, 2026, when the victim reportedly stepped in to pacify a heated argument between other individuals.
During his attempt to de-escalate the situation, he was struck on the head with a heavy metal chain. Following the injury, he was immediately rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.

After receiving treatment and being monitored by medical staff, the man was discharged the following day, Friday.
Reports indicate that he appeared to be in stable condition at the time of his release, leading his family to believe the worst was over.
A few days after leaving the hospital, a meeting was arranged at the Barangay Bari hall to resolve the conflict between the parties involved.
The victim attended the meeting, presumably to finalize the reconciliation. However, upon arriving at the government office, he unexpectedly lost consciousness.
Witnesses at the barangay hall attempted to provide immediate assistance, but the victim was later pronounced dead.
The sudden nature of his collapse has raised serious questions regarding whether his death was a direct consequence of the head trauma sustained during the chain-swinging incident.
The Mangaldan Police Station, led by Lt. Col. Perlito Tuayon, is currently coordinating with medical experts to determine the exact cause of death.

While a suspect was initially identified and questioned in relation to the physical assault, the individual was released due to a lack of immediate medical documentation linking the death to the previous injury.
"Naghihintay kami para sa final autopsy at kumpletong mga medikal na rekord upang matukoy ang aming mga susunod na legal na hakbang," authorities stated.
The police are urging anyone who witnessed the original altercation on January 29 to provide statements that could clarify the severity of the encounter.

In other news, authorities have launched an inquiry into a potential case of animal abuse after footage emerged of a horse being pulled by a speeding vehicle in Misamis Oriental. The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is actively urging the public to provide formal statements to support a criminal complaint under the Animal Welfare Act. The individual responsible, Jose Castro, has refuted claims of cruelty, asserting that the practice is a legitimate "controlled exercise" intended for working ranch horses. Despite the owner's claims of the animal's fitness, advocates maintain that forcing livestock to run on hard pavement behind motorized vehicles is inhumane and dangerous.

Police are currently examining the circumstances of the crash, and the driver of the UV Express remains in custody for an official statement.
