One of the nurses was tragically declared dead on arrival at a local hospital. Her two companions survived but remain in serious condition; one is scheduled for a critical surgical procedure at a specialized hospital in Riyadh.

Local authorities have since identified and apprehended a 34-year-old Saudi national in connection with the crime.

Back in the Philippines, the family of the deceased nurse is reeling from the sudden loss. While they have expressed gratitude for the initial assistance provided by the Migrant Workers’ Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), they are pleading for the government to expedite the repatriation of her remains.

"Ang plano po namin is continue coordination, tapos kung sino sana ang puwedeng makapag-lend sana ng help pa sa amin para mas mapabilis kasi 'yung situation… Mas masakit kung mas matagal siya makauwi. 'Yung main goal talaga po namin ay maiuwi na, at kahit paano mabigyan ng justice 'yung nangyari sa kapatid namin," the victim’s brother-in-law shared in an interview.

Beyond the emotional toll, the family faces a financial complication regarding the victim’s OWWA membership, which reportedly expired in September 2025.

This lapse could potentially limit her beneficiaries to a ₱20,000 burial assistance instead of the standard death and insurance benefits accorded to active members.

The family is currently in talks with OWWA officials to explore the possibility of retroactively reactivating her status, given her decade-long service as an OFW.

The Philippine Embassy and the MWO in Jeddah have assured the public that they are monitoring the case closely to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable under Saudi law.

Meanwhile, the family is considering formal legal action against the suspect to secure justice for their loved one, whose only goal was to provide a better life for her family back home.

In sports news abroad, during a heavyweight clash on January 31, a powerful uppercut from Kingsley Ibeh caused Jarrell Miller’s hairpiece to shift, creating a surreal spectacle mid-ring. Broadcast announcers likened the scene to a live-action cartoon as the dislodged toupee continued to bounce on Miller’s scalp for the remainder of the round. Miller later explained that a disastrous mistake involving ammonium bleach—which he mistook for shampoo at his mother’s home—had left him temporarily bald before the fight. Despite the viral wardrobe slip, "Big Baby" Miller secured a split-decision win and humorously leaned into the moment by showcasing his bare head to the cheering crowd.

In news back home, investigators have linked the killing of a policewoman and her child to a predatory scam involving a fake ₱1.1 million vehicle sale and a stolen ₱550,000 deposit. Evidence suggests the killers carefully prepped their home with plastic coverings to manage the crime scene before fatally shooting the mother and asphyxiating her young son. The accused—a car agent and her former-officer husband—carried out the disposal of the bodies in Tarlac and Bulacan while their own three children were in the vehicle. The victim’s estranged husband has been flagged by authorities after he reportedly attempted to fast-track a cremation, which would have prevented a formal forensic autopsy.
