A married couple lost their lives after a dump truck crashed into the tricycle they were sleeping in at Barangay Daanlungsod in Toledo City, Cebu, authorities confirmed on Monday.

According to a report by Norman Mendoza of Super Radyo Cebu aired on Super Radyo dzBB, initial investigation revealed that the dump truck driver attempted to avoid colliding with another truck while traveling along the road.
In the process, the vehicle veered off course and struck the tricycle where the couple had been resting.
The impact severely damaged the tricycle and caused fatal injuries to both occupants.

Responders rushed the couple to a nearby hospital in hopes of saving them, but doctors later declared them dead on arrival.
Investigators are still determining why the couple was sleeping inside the tricycle at the time of the incident.
Residents in the area said tricycles are sometimes used as temporary resting places by drivers or passengers, especially during late hours or after long trips.
The dump truck driver, who sustained injuries in the crash, was also taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities said the driver remains under observation as he continues to recover.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the full sequence of events leading to the crash, including whether road conditions, visibility, or possible mechanical issues played a role. Statements from witnesses and the drivers involved are also being reviewed.
Local officials reminded motorists to exercise extra caution, particularly on highways where large vehicles frequently pass, and urged drivers to remain alert to avoid similar tragedies.
