This development comes after a car agent, who is already in PNP custody, allegedly tagged him as one of the suspects in the double murder. Before being taken in, Mollenido declined to comment on the agent’s statement. While he was previously considered a person of interest who expressed willingness to cooperate, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has made it clear that “John Mollenido will also face charges.”
The case began with the tragic discovery of Diane Marie, a Police Master Sergeant, who was found dead on January 24 in a creek in Pulilan, Bulacan. She had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Her eight-year-old son, John Ysmael, was found five days later in a calamansi farm in Tarlac. Autopsy reports showed the boy died from asphyxia caused by suffocation.
Recent police operations in Novaliches, Quezon City, led to the apprehension of three other suspects. During these operations, investigators recovered Diane Marie's cellphone and P100,000 in cash from a house shared by two of the suspects. Furthermore, an SUV believed to have been used to transport the victims’ bodies was located in Pampanga.

John Mollenido and the three other suspects are set to undergo inquest proceedings as the investigation continues to uncover more details about the motive behind the killings.
Diane Marie Mollenido was an active member of the police force before she and her son went missing in mid-January. They were last seen heading to a car sale meeting in Quezon City. Her husband, John Mollenido, is also a high-ranking non-commissioned officer in the police service. The double tragedy has shocked the law enforcement community, especially as the investigation now focuses on individuals within the victim's own circle and profession.
Before the husband was taken into custody, the NCRPO announced the arrest of three individuals in a residential area of Novaliches. These suspects were tracked down following an intensive search operation that spanned several days. The police were able to locate them after analyzing the victims' last known movements during the ill-fated car sale.
A key piece of evidence was found in Pampanga when authorities discovered the vehicle allegedly used by the suspects. The SUV is believed to be the transport vehicle for the victims after they were killed. Forensic teams have processed the vehicle for prints and DNA to further strengthen the link between the arrested suspects and the crime scenes in Bulacan and Tarlac.
