A 12-year-old boy has died after drowning in a river in Bacolod City, authorities confirmed on Friday. The incident involved a Grade 6 student who went swimming with classmates after they were dismissed early from school due to a canceled class.

According to a report aired on GMA Regional TV’s "Balitanghali," investigators established that the victim and several schoolmates decided to bathe in the river on Wednesday after being sent home.
The students had been dismissed earlier than usual because their class adviser encountered an emergency and no substitute teacher was available.
Initial findings revealed that the boy jumped into the river but later lost consciousness while in the water.

He eventually drowned before help could arrive. Authorities did not immediately release details on how long the child was submerged or whether rescue efforts were attempted at the scene.
Officials from the Department of Education Division of Bacolod City confirmed that students were allowed to go home early on the day of the incident.
The early dismissal, they said, followed standard protocol after it became clear that no teacher could take over the class.
he DepEd division also stated that it will prepare and submit a formal report regarding the incident to the Regional Office.
The report is expected to outline the circumstances surrounding the early dismissal and the subsequent events that led to the student’s death.
