Suspect arrested in brutal robbery of Japanese national in Parañaque

Police have arrested the suspect involved in the violent assault and robbery of a 62-year-old Japanese national in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

According to a report aired on "Unang Balita," the suspect was tracked down and apprehended at his residence following the incident.

During the arrest, police were able to recover the victim’s passport and identification cards. However, the money allegedly taken during the robbery was no longer found in the suspect’s possession.

Investigators said the suspect refused to issue any statement regarding the incident.

Prior to the arrest, video footage captured from a distance showed the suspect repeatedly striking the victim on the head. Moments later, the same footage showed the suspect grabbing the Japanese national’s bag before calmly walking away from the scene.

When responding officers arrived, they found the victim with visible head injuries and blood-soaked clothing. The victim was immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have yet to release details about his current condition.

Police also recovered a wooden plank, or dos-por-dos, believed to have been used in the attack. The object was found at the crime scene and is now considered a key piece of evidence in the case.

Further investigation revealed that aside from the bag, the suspect also took the victim’s cellphone and cash amounting to P30,000. Law enforcement officials said the incident is being treated as both physical assault and robbery.

Authorities said the suspect will face appropriate charges as the investigation continues, while police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to strengthen security in the area and prevent similar incidents from happening again.

In a previous local report by KAMI, a family of three was brutally gunned down inside their store in Barangay Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija. CCTV footage showed three men entering the shop, pulling down the roll-up door, and then shooting the victims. Before leaving the scene, one of the suspects was seen taking a bag and a cellphone belonging to the family. In a report by Gary De Leon for TV5 Frontline Pilipinas, authorities said the family had reportedly been receiving threats after lending P1 million to a fellow barangay resident, who allegedly used the money for a business venture.

Meanwhile, another local story that went viral involved a 51-year-old public school teacher in Las Piñas City who was stabbed multiple times by her own husband. According to a report by EJ Gomez on Unang Balita, the 38-year-old suspect attacked his wife inside the school’s faculty room. Police said a security guard was stationed at the school, but the suspect was able to enter and leave without difficulty because he was already known there. Investigators said the suspect claimed he went to the school to talk to his wife and try to resolve their problems, but their discussion reportedly escalated into a heated argument that ended in violence.
