Responding officers found the victim with visible injuries to his face, which were believed to have been caused by repeated blows from the suspect.

Initial findings showed that the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday near a wetland park, where the victim was possibly bird watching at the time of the attack.

Investigators said the suspect made off with the victim’s mobile phone, P30,000 in cash, and 30,000 Japanese yen, which is estimated at around P11,500. The victim’s Japanese passport was also taken.

Authorities admitted they faced difficulty communicating with the victim due to the language barrier, as he reportedly had limited understanding of English.

Barangay officials later confirmed the severity of the injuries, saying the victim sustained a crack in his skull, swelling around the eye, and a deep cut on one ear that required stitches at the hospital.

He remains under medical observation as doctors continue to assess his condition.
