According to reports from the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO), the couple met at around 8:00 a.m. to officially settle their separation. What was intended to be a formal discussion about their property and moving on with their lives quickly spiraled into a violent confrontation. In a fit of rage, the husband, Al, 47, allegedly grabbed a karit (sickle) and attacked Jovy, inflicting a fatal wound to her neck that nearly severed her head.

The tragedy comes after a long history of domestic issues. Police confirmed that Jovy had previously filed a complaint against Al for violating Republic Act 9262, also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004. Despite the legal protection and the year-long separation, the final meeting proved to be a fatal encounter.

After the attack, Al immediately fled the scene. Investigations revealed that he traveled to Batangas City to hide with his sister. However, as the manhunt intensified under the orders of QPPO Director P/Col. Romulo Albacea, the pressure began to mount. The suspect reportedly sent a text message to his wife’s relatives, expressing his desire to surrender to the authorities.
