The incident, which took place at a local private institution, has led to a formal police investigation and an immediate disciplinary review by the school administration on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

The altercation occurred in the hallway just outside a classroom during a break between periods.

Security footage capturing the event shows the two students engaged in a verbal exchange. As the female student attempted to walk away and end the conversation, the male student reportedly blocked her path, grabbed her, and delivered a physical blow to her face.

The violence was interrupted only when a male faculty member noticed the commotion and stepped in to separate the students.

While the victim did not require hospitalization, she was treated at the school clinic for minor bruising and is currently receiving emotional support from her family.

Initial reports from the Tagkawayan Municipal Police indicate that the conflict stemmed from allegations of "character assassination" or paninirang-puri.

The male student allegedly confronted the victim because he believed she was spreading malicious rumors about him among their peers.

Because both parties are minors, the Tagkawayan Police’s Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) has taken over the case.

Investigators are working closely with school officials to ensure that the legal process respects the rights of the children involved while still holding the aggressor accountable for his actions.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the school’s management condemned the act of violence, emphasizing that they maintain a strict "zero-tolerance" policy regarding bullying and physical assault.

The male student has been placed under preventive suspension while the board determines if expulsion is warranted.

Furthermore, the school has mandated that both students undergo psychological counseling to address the trauma of the victim and the anger management issues of the suspect.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has also been briefed on the incident to ensure the school follows the mandated Child Protection Policy.

In other news, the regional LTO authorities in Negros have officially tracked down the individual who hampered a BFP fire truck's emergency transit in Barangay Alijis last January 15. Documentation checks revealed that the motorist was handling a borrowed, unregistered bike without a valid license, compounding the severity of the traffic violation. The driver is currently facing a litany of legal repercussions, including reckless endangerment and failure to yield, which may result in a lifelong disqualification from driving. In the wake of this controversy, investigators are now scrutinizing a second viral incident involving a high-risk maneuver executed on the Magsaysay Street flyover.
